The Yorkshire Terrier is a small dog that has always fallen into the Toy group in size distinction. Some will tell you there is no such thing as a "Teacup Yorkie " when they indeed are mistaken. After raising the breed for many many years I have come to learn that in most every litter there is a runt. This little guy will almost always be under 4 lbs and that is if you are breeding with standard Dam and Sire. It has taken us here at Seaside Yorkies alot of  head scratching to figure out how to get a whole litter this small. This is a testy subject for me as I learned how others were producing such small sized Yorkies. We want to be clear in the fact that we do not line breed continuously to achieve mutant smallness. Nor do we risk the lives of our tiny females who almost always require cesections. We simply have 2.5 lb studs whom we breed with our 4 to 6 lbs females. This usually results in two Teacup sized Yorkies if not more. We do not guarantee size however do feel completely sure of our estimations. Remember a "Teacup" is not for everyone. These small ones do require more attention. You must make sure your "Teacup" eats every 4 hours this is achieved by using a dietary supplement in between main meals. Nutri-Cal is the substance we recommend to achieve extra calories. It is also suggested giving liquid calories as well. This can be done by mixing 50% filtered water with Gatorade or Pedialite. It is important that ANY puppy has to be monitored for correct caloric intake.

Size descriptions for any dog breed are Teacup, Toy and Standard. A Teacup is any dog 4 lbs and under. Our Toy Yorkies are 4.5 to 6 lbs and Standard ranges from 7 to 9. These are only regulated descriptions by Seaside Yorkies. These determinations are made after study and trial. These sizes are not recognized by any registry and imply our estimations only.
